Trending: Friday Five Roundup

It’s that time again…coffee time!  Oh wait.  Sorry, I meant Friday!  It’s almost the weekend and I’m ready.  Are you?  I bet you are!  Here’s some fun to get your weekend off to the best start!!

For when you have to cut yourself off from coffee (for me, it’s 3pm otherwise sleeping at night will become optional, there are some delicious and healthy pick me ups.

Manrepeller.com posted some recipes that may seem a bit…bizarre to you non health food people, but I drink turmeric milk daily and it’s quite soothing.  I love coffee and honestly I wish I could drink it at night, but my mind won’t shut down if I do!

Maroon 5 came out with a new single.  And the pop-loving angels rejoiced.

Is anything they sing NOT catchy?  Plus, these costumes are making me say WTF and also stay glued to my screen at the same time.  Mission accomplished, guys.

J.K. Rowling announced that there will be not one, but five Fantastic Beasts movies.

Okay, okay, yeah…that’s probably too many movies.  But I can’t help it.  I’m excited and happy because anything in the Harry Potter universe is exciting to me.

The new face of Gucci is…Vanessa Redgrave!

I love this.  Because this just reinforces what I feel like ALL women need to believe and really truly LIVE…that WOMEN (no qualifiers) are beautiful.  It doesn’t matter what your age is or your “it girl status” or whatever…YOU can wear what makes you happy.  This is gorgeous and I think so much more effective than just choosing whatever model is hot right now.  Bravo Gucci.  As if I needed to love you more…

The fashion world is mad about kitties, and apparently there’s science behind this…er…cat lady obsession.

I was in H&M the other day, and I saw this dress that had leopards on it.  I almost ran and dove for it.  But when I got there…I saw that it wasn’t leopards at all.  It was their much milder relative…house cats.  Apparently, cats are not just “so now”, they’re the furry poster child of high end couture.  Read for yourself…it’s interesting, weird, and somehow makes sense all at the same time.

Hope your weekend is fun!
Your friend in kitty fashion,
Katy

It’s Fri-YAY!  Oh my gosh did I actually say that out loud?  I guess I could delete it, but that would take too much work…I’m too far in, I’m committed, so there you have it.  Anywhoo… (who AM I today???) it’s time for a recap of all the super fun crazy silly amazing random things that happened this week!  Have some coffee, read on, and enjoy!

Lady Gaga is doing the halftime show at the Super Bowl!

Now, I could seriously NOT care any less than I do about sports.  Sorry all you sports fans, but I just can’t get myself to get into stuff I am really really really bad at.  However, two years ago when Katy Perry dominated the halftime show, it reminded me that it’s worth waiting for all that silly football stuff to be over so I can watch a concert!  And Lady Gaga?  YES PLEASE.

Scream Queens is back in all it’s pink glory, and really finding it’s bloody bubblegum-hued groove.

This show makes me want to wear more pink.  More capes, more fur, and more…earmuffs.  Yeah, the style is off the hook and this week, well this week really felt like we were back in the zany swing of things where we left off last year!  When I find just the right pieces, I will be doing a Scream Queens inspired style post because, anyone who can pull off this level of pink in an outfit has my respect.

Is there anything better than watching two guys try on spanx?  Yes.  Watching two BRITISH guys try on spanx.

The Daily Mail asked two guys to try on the Kardashian’s favorite slimming under garments, and well, as you can see, it’s just the most awesome thing ever.  If this doesn’t brighten your day, I can’t help you.

I think Kate Hudson is reading my mind.

Among being, like, the perfect human, I think she can see my thoughts.  Because I LITERALLY JUST dreamed up a pant suit very similar to this for my clothing line, Velvet California.  Of course, mine will have something awesome printed on the back of the jacket and all that, but COME ON.  Is she spying on me?  I’ve reached a new level of narcissism.  Haven’t I.

Pumpkin obsession level: MIDNIGHT.  Because, fall.

I found this new home blog that I’m completely head over heels for called Style Mutt Home and there’s this pumpkin/succulent tutorial that will have you racing to your local craft store.  Because, OH MY GOSH SO PERFECT.

And now, for some more pumpkin spice coffee.  Must find something pumpkin spice colored to wear and then maybe bake a pumpkin, just to switch it up a little.  And Kate Hudson if you’re reading this, GET OUT OF MY BRAIN.

Fashion Feelings: Flowers Are Better Than Numbers

I hate it when passwords have to have numbers in them.  You know why?  I can’t remember numbers.  The first two years of my marriage, I wrote down our anniversary on the calendar on the wrong date.  My husband just looked at me and was like…”why are you writing our anniversary down on that date…you know that’s not actually our anniversary, right?”  Yep.  Two years in a row, no joke.  Remembering my kids’ birthdates or trying to figure out what year it is…my brain rejects numbers vehemently.  I remember things by pictures, words, or by where the nearest Starbucks is to them.

For all you numbers people out there, seriously, I have so much respect for you.  How would we function without you??  This is not meant to offend you, this is just my brain and how it thinks!  I often wish numbers could be replaced with words.  It would be so much easier…common questions like “what time is it?” or “how old are you?” could be answered with colors or feelings.  I could remember that so much easier!  Taking this even further, potentially offensive questions like “how much do you weigh?” or “how old are you?” could become much less horrifying with answers like “feathers” and “happy” (respectively, obviously!)  Yes, I think I am on to something.  Granted, everyone may be in a constant state of confusion, but hey, there would be no more math and that would sure help my brain out a lot!

So today, I’m flowers years old and I weigh roses!  Florals are IN FOR FALL (can I get a hallelujah?!) and I’m so down with that!

Rocking florals for fall is all about LAYERS!  Take a floral sundress (you have one of those right?) and put a shirt under it, or throw a jacket over it, and you are fall ready!  I love the idea of taking a scrappy dress and putting it over a shirt.  It’s super hot right now and is a lot more fun and wearable than you think it is!  Here is a gorgeous (and under $100) idea for a fall floral maxi and here is a great layering piece for underneath to take that dress right into the new season.

Happy weekend :)

Trending: Friday Five Roundup

It’s Friday whoop whoop!  I don’t know about you, but I’m so ready to get my weekend ON!  To help ease those last few hours of the work week, let’s have some fun shall we?  I’ve got the latest and greatest eye candy and news for ya!  (It’s calorie free, promise).

1.Bella Hadid answered the question that has been burning in me all week“how often do models fall during NYFW?”

2. The ultimate cheat sheet to this weekend’s Emmy’s awards.  Because while I watch a lot of TV, basically NONE of it is Emmy conversational!!

3. Sarah Jessica Parker wore track pants with glittery Mary Janes.  Given my recent obsession with track pants, this takes them to a whole new level.

4. Beautycounter did a line for Target.  Being a natural/safe beauty connoisseur, anytime I see a new opportunity for makeup shopping IRL, I do a happy dance.  Next time, maybe don’t be completely sold out though, ok?

5. Love Zara but want to shop ethically?  Yeah.  I know.  I’m an admitted Zara addict, but I also would always prefer to shop from places that are a little more conscious in their production!  I love this article on some great alternatives!  You may pay a little more…but it’s worth it.

Happy Friday, all you beautiful people.  I’m ready to get an acai bowl and go nuts!  (pun intended hehehehe…)

Trending: Snowden

Okay, thank GOODNESS Tamron Hall said it this morning on the TODAY Show.  When the upcoming movie about Edward Snowden came up in discussion (which is aptly named “Snowden”) she said: “when I heard about this, I was like…’wait, WHO is Edward Snowden again?'”  Thank you Tamron.  I’m not the only one.  Yes, I most definitely recognized the name when I heard it, and my brain wanted to say…government secrets, maybe? when I heard it…but till I watched the preview and began to hear about the film, I couldn’t quite remember who he was.  Thanks to Joseph Gordon-Levitt, now we can all refresh our memory, be entertained, and terrified all at the same time.

From what I hear, this movie will make you throw your phone and all other electronic devices, and move to a remote island in Greece, all after getting a fake identity and passport.  Great.  Just what I need.  More paranoia in my life.  But I can’t help but wanna see this movie after the trailer…it just looks so dang interesting!

You know what’s funny about this movie though?  My husband and I, having been completely deprived of all our favorite television shows at the moment, have been rewatching Third Rock From The Sun (do you see where I’m going with this?).  And seeing Joseph Gordon-Levitt in these two roles side by side, is, well, amusing.

Does he not look EXACTLY the same just with less hair?  Hilarious.  I love it when child actors can continue to make it as adult actors in new roles.  And who knows…this new role could possibly land him an Oscar nomination…I mean, the movie is getting a lot of buzz and it’s just about that season!

Okay.  If you are spying on my through my computer cam, please know that I WILL get to the mound of laundry and I will eventually wash my “cleaning day” shirt.  Eventually.

Happy spying

Trending: Lady Gaga

Hallelujah, Lady Gaga is finally back making music!  Let us all sing a resounding rah rah ooh lala because the only woman in the world who can wear a dress made of raw meat and somehow look, “normal” (?) has finally released her new single!  “Perfect Illusion” dropped, and all the Little Monsers around the world are binge listening quite content with this new upbeat jam.  If you haven’t heard it yet, well here’s your chance…

Thank you Gaga.  We have missed you and your epic-ness.  This new single has caused me to reflect on my favorite Gaga videos ever.  And also propose to you that somehow when Beyonce and Lady Gaga collaborate and sing about devices, I really like it.  I have no theories on why this it, but let’s just run with it shall we?  You can watch for yourself and see if you agree! :)
Lady Gaga + Beyonce “Video Phone”

Is that NOT amusing and fun?  It makes my day.  I’ve watched this countless times.  Gaga, Beyonce, and toy guns.  Why?  Don’t ask.
Lady Gaga + Beyonce “Telephone”

I seem to really enjoy the two of them singing about phones.  Yeah, I said that out loud.  It just can’t be a coincidence.  I’m just waiting for their next collaboration, hopefully entitled “iPhone”, or “Apple watch”, or even “Samsung Galaxy”.  There’s a song in there somewhere I just know it.

And for all those Gaga skeptics (are there any of those left?) let’s not forget that long before there was Gaga, there was a girl named Stephani Germanotta just playing and singing like a boss.
Stephani Germanotta aka Lady Gaga

Happy weekend little monsters

Trending: Amanda Knox on Netflix

Here comes all the new fall television…and among the throng is yet another Netflix documentary that is SURE to blow up the internet and social media with lots and lots of opinions!  Netflix just released not one, but two previews for their new documentary all about that crazy bizarre case and it’s star (or villain, no one seems to know which it is!), Amanda Knox.  And let me tell you, these previews are quite the teasers.

Let’s start with the obvious.  That case was long, interesting, tragic, and really quite bizarre in pretty much every way.  I didn’t follow it incredibly closely, but you didn’t need to do that to know that it was most definitely confusing to say the least.  I never really formed an opinion about whether Amanda was guilty or innocent, but rather that obviously something horrible had happened, and no matter what, she was in an awful situation.  All of that being said, I think what really struck me about this documentary was the way they released the two previews.  You need to watch for yourself to understand what I mean.

Okay, you’ve seen the first one.  Think about how you feel, what you think of her, and what opinions you’ve formed.  Then watch this:

NOW how do you feel?  (Besides confused!)  Interesting right?  Okay.  Now, imagine if all you saw was ONE of those on the news, like in a story all about the case.  You’d probably form an opinion based on what you saw, and most likely you’d agree with whichever version you were shown.  This is what really gets me…

After seeing these two versions of the same footage, I am reminded of the power of editing.  The power of the “voice” behind the video or images that we see.  I think that it is so much easier than we even realize for people to manipulate imagery or try to “say” something with the information that is being presented…in a way that is most definitely biased and basically the opinion of whoever is putting it together.  After watching this I must remind myself of the importance of not jumping to immediate conclusions or reacting emotionally immediately after seeing something posted on Facebook or shown on the news.  Because as we can see here, there may be another side to the situation, OR just another way of manipulating footage that would instantly change our emotional response!  Dang.  It’s just too easy to think that I’m forming my own unbiased opinion, not even knowing the information I’ve received has already been biased.

We are all human.  We have bias and opinion no matter how much we try and turn that off and just be neutral.  But this is just an excellent reminder of how powerful media is!  Good thing we all have great brains to think for ourselves right?

Happy verdict reaching…
